How To Check Your Track Tension

Are you ready for a Maintenance 101 lesson? Today we’re going to show you how to safely check the track tension on your John Deere Compact Track Loader!

Directions:

Step 1: Raise the front of the unit off the ground.

Step 2: Check the gap between the idler and the track.

  • For large frame units you want between an 1″ to 1.5″ gap between the 3rd idler and the track.
  • For mid frame units you want 1″ to 1.5″ gap between the 2nd idler and the track.

Step 3: To tension the track remove the plate and pump grease into the grease zerk until you get proper tension.

Step 4: Check tension on a new unit after 10 hrs and then weekly after that to get the best track life out of your unit.
